TotalTab. View your bill at a bar or restaurant, and pay it using your mobile phone. Self-funded so far. Founder Nick Reuter says the company will look to raise money early next year, when it has a beta version operating in a local restaurant.

Why is TotalTab a big idea? …. “Our big thing is that it’s time to put the power of checkout in the consumer’s hand,” Reuter said. “Imagine if you go to Amazon and had to wait in line. Why should you have to wait in line in a brick and mortar? The technology exists so you don’t have to wait in line anymore.”

…… And just a few months ago, two local technologists started an Uxbridge company, TotalTab, developing software to let you pay your bar or restaurant tab with a smartphone app (instead of waiting for a server). “It all started with waiting for a check at a restaurant for way too long,’’ the company says.

 Contest Draws Waves of Entrepreneurs

PROVIDENCE – (April 25th, 2011) – Nine entrepreneurs are vying to take home some of the $250,000 worth of top prizes in this year’s Rhode Island Business Plan Competition with proposals that include new ways to provide surgeons with 3-D images, to tote intravenous (IV) devices, to pay a restaurant tab and to tour historic downtown Providence.

Nick Reuter, a resident of Uxbridge, Mass., and his business partner, Ryan Schumacher of Johnston, proposed TotalTab, a mobile application for smartphones that would allow restaurant/tavern patrons to open a tab, monitor and pay it, including tax and tips, all from their phones.

TotalTab announced as semi-finalist in the Rhode Island Business Plan Competition

PROVIDENCE – (April 12, 2011) – A record number of people vying for a record prize pot of more than $250,000 applied to the 2011 Rhode Island Business Plan Competition, and 16 of them have been named semi-finalists, it was announced today.

The semi-finalists span a broad range of industries – from consumer, Internet, and health care to, tourism, manufacturing, and green-related business.
